Chettinad Chicken


Chettinad Chicken is also known as pepper Chicken because of dominant,spicy flovour of pepper. The coconut oil and curry leaves impart a very traditional South Indian flovour to this chicken dish

Cooking Method
  • For Chicken:
  • Medium Chicken (Approx 1 1/4 KG), cut into 8 pieces.
  • 1/2 Half cup curd whisked (feta huwa)
  • 1. Tablespoon Ginger Paste,
  • 1. Tablespoon Garlic Paste,
  • 2 tablespoon freshly crush pepper,
  • Salt to taste.
  • For Masala:
  • 1 cup Onion finely chopped,
  • 1 cup Tomatoes finely chopped,
  • 1. Tablespoon Ginger Paste,
  • 1. Tablespoon Garlic Paste,
  • 1. Teaspoon garam masala
  • 3 Tablespoon Oil,
  • For the Tempering:
  • 1. Tablespoon coconut Oil,
  • 1.Tablespoon ustard seed,
  • 10 to 12 curry leaves,
  • For the Garnish:
  • 2 Tablespoon chopped Coriander.


  1. Preparation Method:
  2. Clean the chicken and keep aside.
  3. In a big bowl, combine the curd, ginger paste, Garlic paste,pepper and salt and mix well.
  4. Add the chicken to this mixture and merinate for at least 1 hour.
  5. For the Masala:
  6. In a Microwave safe bowl, combine the oil and onion and microwave on HIGH for 13 1/2 minute stirring after every 5 minutes, till onion are browned.
  7. Add the Tomatoes, Ginger paste, Garlic paste and Garam masala and microwave for 7 minutes stirring after every 2 minutes.
  8. For Tempering
  9. In a microwave safe dish, add the coconut oil and mustard seed and microwave on HIGH for 2 minutes.
  10. Add curry leave and microwave for half minute more.
  11. How to Proceed
  12. In another large microwave safe bowl, combined the marinates chicken, masala and tempering and cook covered on High for 12 minutes, stirring after every 4 minutes.
  13. Serve hot
  14. garnished with the coriander.
